Abstract
Thispaperisconcernedwithcorrosionofacooledvesselsteelstructureinteractingwithmoltencoriuminairandneutral(nitrogen)atmospheresduringanin-vesselretentionscenario.Thedataoncorrosionkineticsatdifferenttemperaturesontheheatedsteelsurface,heatfluxdensitiesandoxygenpotentialinthesystemarepresented.Thepost-testphysico-chemicalandmetallographicanalysesofmeltsamplesandthecorium–specimeningothaveclarifiedcertainmechanismsofsteelcorrosiontakingplaceduringthein-vesselmeltinteraction.
