Transport and air pollution 1994: some conclusions

The scientific content of the 3rd symposium ‘Transport and Air Pollution’ held in Avignon in June, 1994, has been analyzed in terms of the topics addressed: a balance has been observed between the issues dealt with, namely the impact of air pollution, pollutant emissions and potential solutions, as well as a balance between the various modes of transport. Secondly, a number of scientific developments which were highlighted or confirmed during the symposium have been discussed; the fields in which research studies should be carried out were determined to be duty vehicles, non-road modes, traffic management, transport policies and socio-economical determinants of the future methods of transport.
