Abstract
Auger electron spectroscopy was used to investigate the adsorption of molecular oxygen and the growth of the initial
surface oxide layer on a series of titanium–aluminum alloys. The aluminum content of the alloys varied from zero to 75 at%.
The uptake kinetics, the reaction sequence of the adsorbed oxygen, the oxidation state of the metallic surface species, and
the initial surface composition of each alloy were obtained from the data. All measurements were performed at room
temperature about 295 K.. q1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
