Translating Allahs Revealed Attributes in the Glorious Quran into English – An Islamic Approach

The revealed attributes of Allah is a sensitive subject whose understanding requires being acquainted with the Islamic teachings that deal with these attributes. When it comes to the translation of these attributes, more attention should be paid by the translators. Consequently, this subject will constitute an area of considerable difficulty for the translators since they are required to make a reasonable balance between the Islamic approach and the translational one to deal with this subject properly. This study aims at bringing to light the importance of adopting the Islamic approach to explore translating the revealed attributes of Allah in the Glorious Quran into English. Five revealed attributes of Allah have been analyzed and compared in six translations to identify the appropriateness of the translations as compared to an adapted model created by combining the Islamic approach and Newmark s model of translation. It has been verified, in this study, that adopting the Islamic approach along with the translational model is inevitable to translate the revealed attributes appropriately.
