The idea of metaphor canbe traced back to Aristotle who is usually considered theoriginator of comparison theories of metaphor.According to Lakoff and Johnson (1980:3),metaphorsare pervasive in everyday life, not just in language but also inthought and action; they propose that metaphor is the verybasis of the way in which we make sense of the world, and, ineffect, is what our reality is based upon. The metaphor of war, like all kinds of metaphor, iswidely used in all aspects of life, it is widespread in ourmetaphorical understanding, it is used to speak of politicsbusiness, law, medicine, etc.lt can be noticed that language, especially nowadays, is loaded with such kind of metaphor. To trace the extent to which such kind of metaphors isused in business discourse, twenty-nine business articles areanalyzed for this purpose.
