Investigating English for Science and Technology ( EST) PostgraduateStudent’s Ability to Use Clause Conjuncts A Paper Submitted

The present study is a descriptive and analytical one which deals with therelationship between clauses in clause complexes in biological texts from the perspective ofsystemic functional grammar. It is hypothesized that communicative functions of clauseconjuncts can be outlined via the assistance of clause conjuncts through the two systems:those of taxis and logical-semantic type which are effective tools to identify the featurebehind a text. In order to test this hypothesis, (20) M.A. and Ph.D. students at the College ofScience / Dept. of Biology were chosen.The results revealed that the findings can help to understand some features of thescientific texts which contribute a lot to the teaching and learning of English in English forscience and technology.
