A Phonological Study of Substitution in English and Arabic

Substitution is a phonological phenomenon whereby a sound replaces another one in English,Standard Arabic and Iraqi Arabic words. The present study aims at identifying and analyzing patterns of substitution in such languages in order to investigate aspects of similarities and differences among them. The results show that differences are more than similarities in such patterns.
