    The main ob.iective of this paper is to stud-v and give variational formulation of moving boundarv value problems. The problems investigated those in u,hich the governing partial differential equation is the Laplace equation and the boundary conditions are of moving t5,pe. The second aim that this work has set itself to Fulfil is the stud1, and the approximate solution of one of the most important problems of applications , namel5 : the Laser ablation problem. It is important to notice that the direct variational method (Ritz method) has proved its efficiencf in solving this problem u hen compared with the other methods proposed b5 other authors
