This paper argues that Arthur Miller in his play Death of a Salesman distorts thesuccess and ignores the importance of security, unity of family and spirituality in the life of humans. Miller explores the changes within American society after the Second World War when the middle-class started to decline because of the rise of capitalists who controlled the business world. The real value of the individual as Miller explains in his play became associated with material goods. Willy Loman in Miller s play collapses because of his failure in the modern industrial society that makes him fail to live a peaceful life with his family and lead to his downfall in the end. Therefore, the materialism of the American society created problematically selfish and greedy capitalists.
