The effect of He-Ne Laser on Candida albicans that isolated from the diabetic patients mouths

This study was conducted to find out the effect of Helium Neon Laser (632.8 run) on the growth of the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans that isolated from the mouth of diabetic patients. Twenty five swabs were taken from the mouth of diabetic patients who were suspected to have a candidiasis. Only (13) (52%) swabs showed positive cultures. The isolates were divided into two groups: group I (one test tube) was remained without irradiation (controlled), and the group II (six test tubes) were exposed to He-Ne Laser radiation for different periods of time (5-30) min, and energy densities (9.55-57.32) J/cm2 Results revealed the clear effect of He-Ne Laser radiation on the percentages of the cells survival and the percentages of colonies diameters of Candida albicans. According to the results, it was concluded that He-Ne Laser could cause a significant decrease in the percentages ofthe cells survival and the percentages of colonies diameters of Candida albicans in spite of it has a low power (1m W).
