In this paper, an improved hybrid dual active bridge inverter is presented for grid-connected PV panels. The proposed structure comprises of a dual active bridge (DAB) converter along with an H-bridge inverter. The DAB converter is connected to the H-bridge inverter using a DC-link capacitor. The proposed hybrid converter can increase the produced voltage by PV panel significantly. The primary bridge switches of DAB converter are controlled using an advanced incremental Conductance algorithm to extract maximum power from PV panel which is capable of tracking the MPP in the rapid variations of climate conditions. For injecting active power to the grid in the proposed topology, model predictive control method is utilized. Using this method, the DC-link capacitor voltage is controlled with lower value of voltage ripple. Also, the total harmonic distortion of injected current is significantly reduced using this technique, so the magnitude of required output filter to smooth the output current is reduced. Eventually, the proposed system is practical, compact, lighter and much cheaper. To verify the performance of presented topology, simulation results are provided using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software.
