A Review on Network Coding Techniques in Vehicular ad hoc Networks

Since nodes in vehicular ad hoc networks are mobile, transfer of information, especially sensitive traffic data such as video is very important in these networks. The most important challenges in transferring video packets are reducing congestion, achieving optimum bandwidth consumption, and reducing peer-to-peer delay. To increase network robustness and reliability, protocols use network coding to reduce the number of packets transferred, and thus, reduce bandwidth consumption. In this paper, network coding techniques, as well as previous work in this area are discussed and compared. The results show that using network coding in vehicular ad hoc networks reduces the .number of packets transferred, network congestion, and peer-to-peer delay, while increasing the available bandwidth
