The resistance of cementitious composite infrastructures to shock, earthquake,
impact and penetration has become an emerging research focus in cement
technology. Since aggregates make up 55 to 75% of the total volume of the
composite, hence study the influence of maximum aggregate size on impact
resistance of such composites is necessary for protective engineering
applications. In this paper the response of cementitious composite samples
subjected to impact of rigid steel projectile has been investigated. Three series
of each group of samples with different maximum aggregate sizes were made
in laboratory. Compressive and indirect tensile strength performed for
cylindrical samples by UTM and impact loading tests conducted for cubic
samples using a gas gun apparatus. Ballistic limit velocity and perforation
limit evaluated based on Chen et al (2008) formula approach and damage
pattern for all samples with different aggregate size were measured and
analyzed. Results were presented and discussed.
