Synthesis of 2-(aryl) imidazo [1, 2-a] pyrimidin-3-ol via reaction of Arylglyoxal and 2- aminopyrimidine.

The reaction of some glyoxal derivatives with different2-amino heterocycles in acidic media has been investigatedpreviously by several authors. Thus, Goto et a1 havereported the synthesis of compounds 2-methyl-3,8a-dihydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-oland 2,6- dimethylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(7H)-one, themodel compounds of Cypridinaluciferineby heating2-aminopyridine or aminopyrazines with both phenylglyoxaland pyruvaldehyde in aqueous acid solution[1- 3]. In this work, we reported synthesis of 2-(aryl) imidazo[1, 2-a] pyrimidin-3-ol from arylglyoxal in the presence of 2- amino pyrimidine in ethanol solvent at room temperature. The products was identified by IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR.
