In many countries, Mines provide the required raw materials for many industries and play significant role in industrial self-sufficiency, job creation, GDP increases and the per capita income of a country. Mining systems often encounter the risks of failure and downtime. Resilience Engineering (RE) is the capability of a system to remain stable in the face of sudden disturbances. This study uses a new framework including the combination of five key variables, namely, health, safety and environmental as the basic factors, Resilience Engineering and Integrated Resilience Engineering (IRE) for assessing the performance of Open-pit mines. First a questionnaire was designed based on the mentioned concepts in order to collect required data and evaluate performance of Open-pit mines. Then, a DEA approach was used to evaluate the decision making units (DMUs) of the mining system. The results show RE and IRE measures play a significant role in the performance promotion of the system performance. To validate the results, the Spearman test is performed. The value of the test is 91% and indicates the results are valid. It is one of the first studies that evaluates the Open-pit mining system by RE and IRE, along with other concepts such as health, safety, and environmental through the DEA approach.
