CAN THERE BE UNIVERSAL BIOETHICS?

Increasingly we look to biothics to help us formulate health – care policy, negotiate a just distribution of health- care resources, assess research protocols and make good clinical decisions. Yet the roots of bioethics are almost exclusively western in origin. Consequently ,deep and careful analysis is required before a Universal Declaration of Bioethics can be established. This paper first explores some of the formative influences on bioethics as a means of better understanding its cultural construction and comments on its potential university . it then recommends that a broader, more contextual analysis of bioethics be considered when dealing with global or cross-sultural situations.
