Planning a Road Map for Achieving PBT Production Know-how as an Alternative to PET in STPC Complex

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is an important polyester benefiting from good thermal, mechanical, and physical properties that makes it a suitable material for various applications. Although the world production and consumption of PBT are significantly lesser than PET and also, PBT prices are higher, but its characteristics make it a better choice (and in some cases the best one) for certain applications especially for injection molding of some plastic parts. In the present research, feasibility of production of PBT in Shahid Tondgoyan Petrochemical Company (STPC) as an alternative to PET was studied and three preferred industrial production methods were evaluated and the most preferred method was suggested. A research road map for achieving know-how of this new alternative product was planned and divided into four steps. Required time and cost for each step was estimated.
