An experimental analysis on the buckling behavior of laminated composite cylindrical shells with embedded shape memory alloy wires (SMA) was performed. The main subject of this research is the effect of adding shape memory alloy wires on the characteristics of the buckling of carbon-epoxy laminated composite cylindrical shells caused by axial pressure loads. The samples were manufactured by 5% pre-strain amount in the SMA wires. The experimental results show that the recovery stresses of the SMA wires can enhance the stiffness of laminated composite structure and the samples exhibit better behavior in the buckling compared to the laminated composite cylindrical shells without SMA wires.
