Transmission Expansion Planning in Deregulated environment considering Phase Shifter Transformer

Series FACTS such as phase shifter transformer (PST) can increase network flexibility by controlling power flow over a transmission network and hence reduce short term operating cost and long-term transmission planning investment cost. This paper presents a mixed integer linear programming problem for modelling allocation of PST along with transmission lines in a market based transmission expansion planning (TEP). The implications of the PST on the operation and planning of the system are investigated by a set of economic and operating metrics. N-1 security criteria are enforced to ensure a reliable operation of the system as well as a viable expansion of the transmission system. The proposed model is applied to Garver six-bus system to show its effectiveness.
