Synthesis of tropolone derivatives in the presence of MgO Nanoparticles

The use of Smiles rearrangement in Passerini-type couplings with tropolone allows very straightforward multicomponent formation of tropolone derivatives. The three-component addition of cyclohexyl isocyanide to tropolone (2-hydroxy-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one) and aldehyde in the presence of MgO Nanoparticles proceeds easily in methanol at 60 oC, followed by reflux for 24 h to form titled compounds in a new Passerini- Smiles-type reaction.
