Composition of quadratic forms and Clifford algebras

In this talk we first give a historical overview of several proofs of the Hurwitz theorem on composition of quadratic forms. One of the proofs of the Hurwitz theorem is due to C. Chevalley and uses Clifford algebras. We then talk about a new proof of this theorem which uses Clifford algebras in a different way from that of Chevalley.
