DAB+ Implementation in Iran: Cost Analysis and Network Planning

Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) standard is a matter of discussion for the radio broadcasters who seek their ideal path forward future. The DAB standard has been utilized in Europe for years and the latest release has been optimized based on the backing practical experience gathered. The equipment and variety of receivers (for diverse reception scenarios) are available on affordable cost. Deployed in VHF Band III, DAB+ can be a reasonable choice as a digital radio platform. In this paper, we have an overview of the most recent status and technical features of the DAB standard, along with a comparative benefit cost analysis of DAB+, FM and the Internet radio in Iran. Technical conclusions and a proposal of feasible planning parameters for I.R. of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) case are deduced at the end.
