    Fucoxanthin is the major xanthophyll-like compoundthat is abundant in macro- and mi cro-algae as a member of photosynthetic light-h arvesting complexes. Nowadays, widespread app lications of fucoxanthinin food industry, pharmaceutical, and medical purposes are increasing. Microalgae, e.g.Tisochrysislutea,attrac ts the attention of researchers because of high c ontent of fucoxanthin and the rapid growth in differentconditions.This review describes the main fucoxanthin-containing algae. Also,the bioactivities ofthis valuable metabolitewill be iscussed in the field ofanti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-obesity, and anti-di abetic in current available research articles.Due to low bioavailability of this pigment in human , dietary supplementationcan improve the absoorption rate of fucoxanthin, therefore, it will be looking forward to a bright future in pharmace utical industry.
