In this study, the electrochemical oxidation of acetaminophen in the presence of metformin as an antidiabetic drug in aqueous solution was performed using cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry techniques. The results show that N-acetyl-P-benzoquinone-imine (NAPQI) obtained from electro-oxidation of acetaminophen has been reacted with metformin via the Michael addition reaction. The mechanism of this reaction was suggested as an ECECC pathway using cyclic voltammetry, controlled-potential coulometry and spectroscopic data. In this work, we introduced new compound with good yields through a catalyst‐free, environmentally friendly method at room temperature under green conditions.
