VARIATIONAL ITERATION METHOD FOR SOLVINGNONLINEAR OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS

In this paper, we use the Variational Iteration Method(VIM) for optimal control problems. The idea consists of formu-lating the problem of optimal control under a variational problemform by substituting the control variable by its expression derivefrom the system model in the performance index. Then, the solu-tion of the variational problem obtained is achieved by satisfyingthe Euler-Lagrange equation, which is in general nonlinear. There-fore, the VIM is adopted to solve the Euler-Lagrange equation ob-tained, and the optimal control law is easily deduced by performingsimple calculations. Finally, Illustrative examples are included todemonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique.
