Enterprise Resource Planning in Malaysian Construction Firms

Implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems has recently gained striking attention from many industries including the construction industry. This implementation requires investigation in order to improve ERP performance and to show its advantages and limitations. This research is the first study to investigate major concerns in the implementation of ERP systems in Malaysian construction firms and to identify some of the most important factors that guarantee its successful implementation. A questionnaire was designed in order to collect the required raw data of this study and SPSS statistical software was used to analyze the collected data. Based on the 102 responses, it was found that in terms of infrastructure availability, Malaysian construction firms were capable of implementing ERP systems, nevertheless, the rate of implementation was quite low (Only 18٪ of the respondents were using ERP). Barriers to ERP implementation as well as success factors are discussed.
