A practical design of the power electronic converters
requires a specific process for electrical engineering students. In
this paper, a comprehensive designing process layout is discussed,
and on that basis, two initial and industrial designing paths from
technical specification to converter implementation are explained.
Technical specification, conceptual design, power circuits design,
simulation, detailed design, mechanical and combined design
and implementation have been introduced and described as
essential steps in the design process of a power electronic
converter. According to these steps, students can easily define,
design, and implement prototype of a power electronic converter.
The proposed scheme for industrial designing of a converter is
practical and useful for students and design engineers. The results
of the students training based on this process indicate that their
step-by-step design training has been successful to instilling the
concept of converters design. The main advantage of the proposed
method is complete process presentation for converters designing
instead of introducing and analyzing of the power electronic
circuits in the power electronic designing courses.
