hydraulic structures built in the river bed like abutments spur dykes and piers damage from scouring there are limited researches on the scour control methods for abutments and spur dykes two major countermeasure techniques usesd to prevent local scour at bridge piers and abutments which can be classified as river bed armoring include riprap cable - tied blocks gabions foundation extensions geo bags grout -filled bags and aalter the flow alignment include spur dikes piles guide banks and bedway weirs buried vane method similar to submerged vanes method with height of 0 cm this method used both techniques for control scour around of vertical wall and spur dyke .
