In this work, an Algebraic slip mixture (ASM) model has been built in order to study the influence of different inlet
chamber designs on the de-oiling hydrocyclone efficiency. Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes and continuity equations
are employed to solve steady turbulent flow through the cyclone using Reynolds stress model (RSM). In addition, the
modified drag correlation for liquid-liquid emulsion with respect to Reynolds number range and viscosity ratio of two
phases has been used and the simulation results have been compared with the prediction of Schiller-Naumann drag
correlation results. The simulation results for standard design demonstrate an acceptable agreement with reported
experimental data. Furthermore, the simulations show that the separation efficiency can be improved approximately 7
percent utilizing exponential body shape for inlet chamber design.
