In an autoclave reactor, propylene polymerization was carried out in slurry phase using an
industrial TiCl4/Phthalate/MgCl2 catalyst system. Polymerization kinetic profiles were obtained during
reaction time. Effect of catalyst pre-contact procedure, on reaction kinetics, polymerization performance,
polypropylene morphology and some important properties of produced polymer were investigated. Reaction
and deactivation rates are strongly influenced by hydrogen. The final properties of the achieved polymers are
correspondingly affected too. Initial polymerization rate is the crucial factor in the development of the
polymer particle morphology. There is less difference between the reaction rates, for propylene
polymerization performed with and without catalyst pre-contact. The activity of this catalyst is high enough to
react immediately without any activation before injection. Catalyst pre-contact does not have any influence on
polymer morphology either.
