In this study, the batch solution copolymerization process for production of medical grade acrylic pressure sensitive
adhesive (PSA) containing; 2-ethylhexylacrylate (2-EHA), 2-hydroxyethylacrylate (2-HEA), glycidylmethacrylate(GMA) and
vinylacetate(VAc) using azobisisobutironitryl(AIBN), is presented. The influence of different parameters such as reaction time,
temperature and initiator concentartion for the optimization of the polymerization reaction was investigated. The optimized
copolymer were characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimerty(DSC). Also the adhesive
properties were evaluated in terms of the intrinsic viscosity, glass transition temperature (Tg), tack and peel strength. Residual
monomers in copolymer were determined by HPLC method. It was observed that, the concentration of free monomers in the
optimized acrylic PSA was 0.01w%.
