This review article illuminated the contentious conceptualizations central processing-based perspectives delineating the learning channels and mechanisms in cognitive approaches to second language learning. Over decades, Efficiency Driven Processor, Restructuring and Subsumption were viewed to involve incompatible involving different procedures, but this article takes up a look afresh into them in an attempt to bring to fore their commensurability. Evidence will be accrued and arguments will be posited from the relevant literature as to how these divided concepts in effect represent the same or similar processes of in second language acquisition. The arguments mainly center on cognitive information structure and the role of background information in characterization of how new input is taken in, in relation to the input already subsumed. The paper also discusses the implications for second language acquisitions theories and learning. The difficult issues at the heart of processing-based perspectives in cognitive approaches to second language learning (SLL) as learning mechanisms. For years, Efficiency Driven Processor, Restructuring and Subsumption had been viewed as separate issues, but this article is taking a fresh look at it now. As a result, evidences were presented as to how the three concepts are directly related to the representation language of theorists but they can be considered the same regarding that cognitive structure or background information is the common influential factor in all of under-investigation theories, it means link between old and new data will accelerate learning.
