The present study attempts to analyze J. M. Barrie’s The Admirable Crichton based on the theories of Antonio Gramsci and applied his theories that lead to a better understanding of the concepts of this play. Barrie’s ideology in this play focuses mainly on the ways the oppression exists in the society which makes a group of people masters and some other group slaves. The present play of Barrie portrays a wise and respectful butler, Crichton, who works for an aristocratic family as a servant and has his own strict opinions about the different social classes in England. The findings show that Barrie intends for his play to reflect the domination, oppression, and hegemony that existed in English society.
