Investigating the use of systems dynamics (SD) technique in strategic management studies: A bibliometric study

System dynamics (SD) is an approach to understanding the behavior of complex systems over time. Also, since the strategic management is defined as a dynamic and continuous process, therefore, a change in any one of the major components in the strategic management process can necessitate a change in any or all of the other components. Therefore, system dynamics (SD) may be able to support the strategic management approaches and applications in different ways. This study aimed to analyze the trend of publications and scientometric analysis of published researches in the field of SD and strategic management. To this end, the information of 471 scientific documents published in 1990-2022 were extracted from the Web of Science and analyzed. Two levels of analysis are investigated in this study. At the first level, citation analysis is used to examine the research process and the impact of articles, authors and journals. The second level analyzes the structure of the word co-occurrence networks and the co-authorship network of authors, institutions and countries. According to the results of this research, the use of the SD approach in the field of strategy has been increasing in recent years, which indicates the need to use the systems dynamics approach in the field of strategy.
