Nonionic niosomes as a promising nanocarrier in drug delivery

Aim and Background: Niosomes can improve the targeting and controlled release of natural pharmaceutical compounds, solubility, and stability of pharmaceutical molecules. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize novel non-ionic niosomes as promising nanocarriers. Methods: Nano-noisome loaded with different drugs ( such as gallic acid and crocin) was prepared by thin layer hydration. Different ratios of cholesterol, non-ionic surfactants (Tween-60 and Span-60), and polyethyleneglycol 4000 were mixed and size, stability, entrapment efficiency, and release profile of nanosystems were investigated by DLS and UV-Visible spectrophotometry. Results and discussion: Our results showed that drugs in nanoniosome-based systems improve biological activity, stability, and bioavailability. Furthermore, the ratio of surfactants can influence niosome properties such as size, zeta potential, drug entrapment, and drug release. Conclusion: A nanoniosome-based system optimizes pharmaceutical uses mainly by improving biological activity and stability.
