Attitudes towards English: The case of Iranian and Turkish EFL students

Considering the paramount compromise that exists between language and culture, this study aimed to investigate the role of language and culture on students’ attitudes towards English. To this end, 72 Iranian and 73 Turkish EFL students were involved who took part in completing a 39-item Likert-scale questionnaire. After reversing negative items, t-test results revealed significant differences on sixteen items but not on the total attitudes towards English between the groups. Detailed discussion, findings, and implications are discussed in the paper.
