Dessins d’Enfants, Discrete Conformal Structures and Their Applications

Flattening of the brain surface has applications in the recognition of patterns of brain activity. It is impossible to flatten curved surfaces with isometries, but it is possible to do this by conformal maps. We review an approach to conformal brain flattening that uses discrete conformal structures.
