The Role of Environmental Education in Sustainable Development

Environmental education is one of the main educational concerns in the twenty-first century. It is an important response to the ways in which human interactions with the world can damage natural and finite resources and put at risk the habitats and ecosystems of different species. Also, it seeks to raise awareness of the role we must play in preserving our world and supporting children in developing ecocentric or biophilic dispositions. In this article, different concepts such as various types of environment and its structure, environmental education, its multi-disciplinary nature and importance, and finally, the need for public awareness are presented.
