Investigating the amount of crispening effect on perceived color difference

“The increase in perceived magnitude of color differences when the background on which the two stimuli are compared is similar in color to the stimuli themselves” is called crispening effect. In the present study, the crispening effect for 4 color centers that are recommended by CIE, is investigated for three backgrounds with lightness values of L*=40(Dark gray), 60(Gray) and 86(White). According to the results, the sample pairs in different color centers showed between 16 % to 35% larger visual color difference against the background with almost the same lightness as the samples.
