Eco-friendly dyeing of wool with crataegus elbursensis fruit natural dye

In this study, Crataegus elbursensis fruit natural colorant was used for wool dyeing using metallic mordants. Color characteristics and color fastness on wool were evaluated. It was interestingly found that natural dye itself (with no metallic mordant incorporation) possessed very good color fastness, even much better than those of mordanted wool which was ascribed to the presence of tannins and their role as bio-mordants. Besides variety of color shades obtained by different metallic mordants, in some cases color fastness was improved. However, color fastness of some mordanted wool was inferior than that of unmordanted dyed wool. Indeed, the results showed the potentiality of Crataegus elbursensis fruit colorant as new promising source of natural dye for ecofriendly dyeing of wool with satisfactory fastness properties. .
