synthesis of iron oxide pigments from rolled steel scrap

Hot-rolled iron oxide waste, is a pollutant caused by the steel industry. Large amount of this by-product is left unused in steel factories, annually. Recycling of these products can help to reduce environmental pollution. Given that the oxide scale formed on steel ingot includes a variety of iron oxides such as Fe, FeO, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4, it can be used to synthesis of iron oxide pigments. In this paper, the aqueous solution method is provided to prepare red and brown pigment. XRD analysis and optical spectroscopy were used to confirm the structural properties and color stability of the samples.
