Female writers in societies that men have been always included in literary canons have been overshadowed and consequently marginalized. Women are mostly limited by their gender codes enforced on them through their society. These limitations on women’s writing have led to three different phases in their writing process that extends from imitation of the style and language of men in their writings, to creating a new language and style for themselves, and including themselves in the literary canon. In this paper according to Showalter’s three phases of women’s writing two writers, Charlotte Brontë and Simin Daneshvar, are cited and their challenging novels, Jane Eyre and Savushun, are analyzed in terms of the second phase of women writing, i.e. feminist phase, to put into question the authority of men. Through the detailed depiction of the characters in these two novels, the independence of women writers from the male dominance will be proved.
