Microstrip Antenna Miniaturization Using Metamaterial Structures

In this paper a miniaturized microstrip patch antenna is designed on a RT/Duroid 5880 substrate. The efficiency of the antenna was improved using MSRR and WS metamaterialstructures and its complimentary cells on the ground plane. Consequently the antenna efficiency and bandwidth is 92% and0.5% at resonant frequency of 2.03GHz, respectively. The directivity of the antenna is 2.7dBi. It compacted by 50% in comparison with aregular patch antenna resonating at the same frequency
