PERCEPTIONS ON BIOETHICS AMONG PATIENTS PRESENTING TP FAMILY PHYSICIANS IN KARACHI

we have studied patient perceptions on bioethics at family practice clinic, Aga Khan University , Karachi. It was a Questionnaire based cross sectional survey and 420 patients were interviewed. Majority of the respondents were young and well educated and better placed socio-economically . we asked them about moral qualities expected in a physician, their response to the death of a close relative due to a physician’s negligence , artificial life support discontinuation, physician assisted suicide , concealing diagnoses from patients. Questions on cloning, patient autonomy , confidentiality, sickness certification and gifts by pharmaceutical industry for doctors were included.
