Abstract
The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the mediating role of self -esteem on the relationship between hopelessness and happiness in student of pedagogy formation program in Adıyaman University. The study group consisted of 141 female (46.4%) and 162 male (53.5%). The study was conducted with 303 individuals between 20-43 years of age and, the mean age was 27.98 (Sd= 5.01). Descriptive analyses and Pearson correlation coefficient were used in data analysis. The mediation effect of model tested in the research was examined for statistical significance based on Ordinary Least Squares Regression Model, and Bootstrap Method. According to findings, there were significant negative correlations between hopelessness and self-esteem, hopelessness and happiness too. On the other hand, there were significant positive correlations between self-esteem and happiness. According to the mediation analysis by using bootstrapping method, self-esteem had a mediation effect on the relationship between hopelessness and happiness. The findings of the present study were discussed in the light of the related literature. In addition, some suggestions for further research were proposed.
