    Supervision Relationship: A Critical Element of Counseling Supervision

  • Abstract
    This study aimed to (a) present a review of literature about conceptual and empirical studies on the supervision relationship, (b) examine variables which contributing and hindering the supervision relationship, and (c) to discuss the role of the qualified supervision relationship on the supervision process in the light of the literature findings. Supervision relationship was first proposed in the 1980s by Edward S. Bordin. To Bordin, supervision working alliance is of three components. These components are mutual agreements, tasks, and emotional bond. When the international literature is reviewed, it is seemed to be quite rich regarding defining quality of supervision relationship and determining the variables which affect to supervision relationship. Results of these researches showed that supervision relationship between supervisor and supervisee is one of the most critical elements of supervisee’s professional development. However, researches regarding supervision relationship in Turkey are still limited. Accordingly, it can be stated that the supervision relationship is a research field waiting for being enlightenment in Turkey. In this context, it’s anticipated that this study would enlighten the supervisors for supervision relationship and would inspire the future researches in Turkey
