Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the secondary mathematics teachers’ views about alternative assessment. The present study was implemented 47 secondary mathematics teachers from Trabzon and the district area of Akçaabat, Vakfıkebir, Çarşıbaşı, Araklı and Beşikdüzü. Data were gathered through a questionnaire and observation. Qualitative data were examined through descriptive analysis. Results showed that teachers did not favour implementing alternative assessment approaches, although those had positive attitudes. Moreover, it was found that in-service training was insufficient for explaining and implementing alternative assessment. In addition, lacking of time and crowded classroom are the most important problems that teachers face.
