  • Abstract
Mitral annular calcification (MAC) is a degenerative process that occurs mostly in older patients, especially in women. This process is also more common in patients with end-stage renal failure. Mitral valve dysfunction and the other complications including atrial fibrillation, thromboembolic events and atrioventricular blocks increase in proportion to the intensity of calcification. We herein present a mitral annular calcification that two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography showed massive mitral annular calsification while three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography didn’t detect any severe mitral dysfunction.
