With the amendments made in 2005 by the Law No. 5377, defamation trough the medium of the press is no longer an aggravated defamation category. However in practice, that concept still survives and has important consequences concerning procedural institutions, particularly material jurisdiction of criminal courts. This article focuses on the concept of defamation trough the medium of the press, on defamation by electronic publications, and some related procedural problems.
