Abstract
According to historians and legal historians, Mulla Lutfi was accused of blasphemy and sentenced to death for his crime, but this recognition poses some problems concerning the Ottoman legal system and the ulama of that time. Had Mulla Lutfi actually sentenced to death for his blasphemy as claimed by contemporary scholars, or did the rivalry among the ulama and the political consequences of that antagonism cause such a sentence? In the light of new evidences, I will argue whether or not Mulla Lutfi was sentenced for that crime and killed as a part of a conspiracy organized by his peers.
